At this moment, you’re probably in full holiday party mode. You’ve got the outfits together (hopefully) but could use a few beauty tips to complete your look. Hair, makeup and let’s never forget that manicure.
This season, a well put together look includes a standout mani. It’s all about bold shades and textures, and that’s why I love SinfulColors new Crystal Crushes collection. These gem-inspired nail polishes come in eight vibrant shades. With a 3D texture and pearlized finish, this is the perfect way to add some glam to your office party attire or compliment your hot night-out ensemble.
My favorites from the collection are Emerald Envy and Ruby Mine. It was easy to apply with just two coats and dries really fast! The most wonderful thing about SinfulColors collection is that you don’t have to fork out $20 (the cost of a mani) for a nail polish. It’s available exclusively at Walgreens stores for only $2.99 each.

Now that I have a boy and a girl, I’m beginning to notice the big scam behind these gender-specific toys. Take for example the Leap Pad tablet that I bought for my daughter last Christmas. I initially wanted to purchase the green and white tablet so that both kids could share it. But, the salesperson pointed out that the green was for boys and the lavender was for girls. So guess what I did? I got suckered into buying a tablet that my daughter has outgrown and that I’m just not liberal enough to pass on to my son. Well, I’m sorta kidding but you get my point.
Having two kids that are only a year and a half a part means that they’ll spend a lot of time sharing and playing with each other. Since they can’t share clothes, I’m making sure that this Christmas list includes toys that they can both enjoy. I’ve handpicked these cool toys (for little boys or girls) from some of my favorite stores, and they’re all under $25! Happy Shopping…

While the world mourns a hero, heaven welcomes one of the greatest souls to walk the earth. Nelson Mandela passed away yesterday at the age of 95.
I am old enough to remember Apartheid and how the world celebrated his freedom after 27 years in prison. This morning as I browsed the web, it’s moving to see how the world remembers his legacy and life.
From his personal style on USA.com to a photographic journey of his struggles via TIME.com, here are my favorite journalistic tributes to Nelson Mandela…
As much as I love the energy of the city, the hustle and bustle can sometimes get mentally and physically stressful. Even my recent trip to the spa was a challenge. Running to and from appointments and a chaotic subway ride made it even more necessary to unwind.
When I finally entered Eden Day Spa, it was obvious why so many New Yorkers flock to this hidden oasis over and over again. At 8000 square feet, it’s one of the largest spas in New York. There’s even a kitchen, which offers complimentary salads, sandwiches or pasta to clients that reserve a full treatment. The serene atmosphere and unrushed attitude of the staff was exactly what I needed for my “Me Time”. No emails, sippy-cup-throwing toddlers or husband around.
I tried their signature Sea C Spa facial – an intense anti-aging treatment that slows down the natural aging process. They used pure vitamin C, seaweed patches and organic mud which help to diminish wrinkles and brighten the skin. The entire treatment was an hour and fifteen minutes and ended with a scalp, neck and shoulder massage. I basically went to heaven and came back with beautiful, clear, glowing skin.
Now, I should add that I am always skeptical about the extraction part of the facial (where they remove the blackhead/whiteheads) but my esthetician, Yvonne, was a pro. I had very minimum redness and minor breakouts that went away after a day. I had such a great experience and amazing results that I plan on being a regular.
So if you’ve been reading for the past 4 years, you’ll know I don’t do Black Friday. After enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving meal and my traditional Jamaican sorrel, the last thing I want to do is stand in line for hours (even if it’s the next morning). Nothing beats shopping from your tablet or laptop and being able to browse through 800 online retailers. Thank Goodness for Cyber Mondays!
Check out some of my favorite deals that I found via the official Cyber Monday website. Happy Shopping!

THE 2013 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS FASHION RECAP
Last night, the American Music Awards was more like background entertainment. Some nights it’s just a challenge to sit and watch TV with two overly active toddlers. And adding a bottle of moscato during dinner did not help the situation.
Still, I caught enough to witness Rihanna’s upscale rendition of the ‘doobie wrap’, Lady Godiva…I mean Lady Gaga’s entrance on the big white horse and Miley Cyrus’ grown yet sexy pants suit.
Black women all over the world were either gawking in total admiration or in shock that Rihanna chose to wear a ‘doobie’ wrap to compliment her Jean Paul Gaultier ensemble. Let’s just say the ‘doobie’ is equivalent to wearing hair rollers to the grocery store. But, Rihanna is a fashion icon and received the first ever Icon Award at the 2013 AMAs! I think she’s cute and young enough to pull off anything, but please keep in mind that we all can’t be like Rihanna.
I can’t deny that Adam Levine is probably The Sexiest Man Alive, but let’s talk about the hot chocolate men that made the 2013 list! People Magazine’s annual Sexiest Man Alive issue hit newsstands today, and the tall, dark and handsome Idris Elba takes the No. 2 spot as the sexiest.
The 41 year old British actor could be up for an award or two with hit movies such as “Thor: The Dark World” and the soon-to-be released Nelson Mandela biopic.
The list also includes musical genius Pharrell Williams, R&B superstar Usher and actor Shemar Moore. A very nice mix. Still, I am a little disappointed that Denzel Washington is the only black man to have won this competition since it started 28 years ago. You know y’all love some chocolate. I’m just saying.
Who’s your favorite from the list?
So many parties and so many dresses! This holiday, you can find that special party dress in leather combos, high-low hemlines, body con silhouettes and wintry white. I love the variety and the fact that there’s something to suit every girls’ personal style.
Some of my favorites are from Free People, Alice + Olivia and BCBG, which you can get (on sale now) at most department stores. For a really glam holiday look, accessorize your party dress with ankle booties, a statement clutch and red lips. What’s your favorite dress this season?
Camouflage or Camo-print is a hot trend this season, but you don’t have to wait until the weekend to rock it. You can skillfully incorporate this look into a few work wear ensembles. The trick is to let the camo-print stand out as the only trendy piece and add neutral and classic pieces to complete your outfit.
Here are three fun camouflage pieces you can wear to work…
CAMO PRINT SWEATER
I feel like there’s always an emotion attached to every extreme new hairdo. Whether you’re exploring your sensual, romantic side by going to greater lengths or breaking free from something or someone by chopping it all off. Then, there is always the chance that you’re a celebrity whose stylist promised that this new look would turn heads on the red carpet.
Recently, these celebrities have been making headlines with their drastic new dos…
BAYWATCH BABE PAM ANDERSON GOES SHORT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
I can’t remember seeing Pamela Anderson with anything but long, voluminous hair. Doesn’t she look smarter? The 46 year old actress is also an accomplished producer, author and activist, so I think it’s about time she ditched the blonde bombshell image.
