This top ten list is going to confuse some people as well as upset a lot of Beyonce fans, so let me explain. Every year the Costume Institute at the Met Museum holds this fundraiser which also kicks off its fashion exhibit.
This year’s theme was China Through the Looking Glass. Now, I’m just going to take a wild guess and say that people would be expected to wear Chinese inspired fashion…right?
Now, it’s not mandatory that celebrities go along with the theme but why not? Why not pay homage to the curators and everyone who went through the trouble of planning this exhibit and event? Why not do something fun and unique instead of your typical skin tight, see-through, red carpet look (Beyonce)?
With that said, here’s Rihanna and other celebrities who slayed on the red carpet by dressing to uphold the theme…
Of course Rihanna is my top pick for best “costume” followed by Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and model Karen Elson. Although Jlo’s dressed was questionable at first, the color and, what looks like, tiny dragon appliques puts her at the top of the list.
Janelle Monae and Karolina Kurkova went for an updated look with a traditional madarin collar, while Chinese actress Fan Bingbing wore a gold gown and Chinese inspired print cape.
Rita Ora’s Tom Ford gown stayed within the theme, but it’s so modern and sexy that you can wear it to a non-costume event. Zendaya was absolutely adorable in Chinese inspired print and colors while Georgia May Jagger went with a sexy geisha look.
