Now that the holidays are behind us, now is the time to focus on YOU! All the things we enjoy about the holidays, such as entertaining, gift shopping, and redecorating, can translate into a lot stress.
That’s why the beginning of the year is always a great time to unwind and enjoy a relaxing spa treatment. Plus, the damaging effects of winter on your skin calls for some extra TLC.
Here are a few winter skincare treatments to try at home or at the spa:
1. Full Body Scrub: Cold weather means dry, dull and flaky skin. It’s important to exfoliate and polish away those dry patches and dead skin. You can easily do this at home using a body scrub like, one of my favorites, Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish. If you prefer a more professional treatment, most spas include a sea-salt or sugar based scrub on their menus. Bliss Spa, which has multiple locations in cities such as New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles, offers a Hot Salt Scrub with sea-salt, rosemary and eucalyptus oil.
2. Detox Body Wrap: Although there are many do-it-yourself detoxifying body wraps, I suggest heading to the spa for this treatment. Even with some extra hands to help wrap you tightly, it can get rather messy and you just won’t get the full effect. Mud or seaweed wraps can get rid of that post-holiday bloating and dry patches as well as relieve seasonal sickness.
3. Paraffin Manicure and Pedicure: Winter can wreak havoc on your hands and feet; leaving you with wind-chapped hands, cracked heels and dry cuticles. Getting frequent paraffin wax treatments can help to lock in moisture and hydrate your skin. Paraffin is a petroleum-based wax that was first used by doctors in the 1950s to help relieve arthritis pain. You can request this treatment at your nail salon for a few extra bucks, or purchase a paraffin nail spa kit from Sally Beauty Supply for around $50.
