I had to sit back and let this year’s Grammy Awards marinate a bit before giving my two cents. Over the years, I’ve tried not to elaborate on the actual performances because I’m usually all caught up with the red carpet looks. However, how could I ignore the delightfully raunchy PDA (public display of affection) between Mr. and Mrs. Carter.
Now, I never give my opinion as an attempt to change anyone’s mind. We’re all entitled to our beliefs, values and what we consider appropriate or inappropriate. But here’s what I think —
1) I find it very odd that people are in an uproar over the expression of sexuality. That’s not healthy.
2) For those who thought it was too explicit for children — it’s fairly easy to pause the TV, switch channels or put the kids to bed. Furthermore, I had no idea that the Grammys was a kid-friendly program.
3) Some folks should have watched Beyonce’s performance , practiced some of those moves and try to reenact what it’s like to be “Drunk in Love”
Anyway, moving right along to my favorite red carpet moments of the night. Here are my picks for best dressed and best hair:
If the words casual or comfy never come to mind when you think of a pair of Jimmy Choo or Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, keep reading because I’m about to change your whole mindset.
The high-top sneaker trend has been going strong for the past 4 seasons but this spring, high end designers are giving life to your everyday/weekend wardrobe. Whether it’s embellished, suede, floral or metallic, you can find a pair of high-tops that fit your personal style.
As a work-at-home mommy of two, this is a perfect way to pair style and comfort while running errands and being out and about with the kids. I love high-top sneakers with a pair of skinny jeans and graphic tee, but you can even rock it with a cute bodycon dress.
Am I the only one who’s ready for spring? Unfortunately, we have many more bitter cold days ahead and more reason to switch up your beauty regimen. If you’re still using the same face moisturizer, body lotion and hair treatment that you used during the summer, it’s time to start shopping.
During the winter, your skin loses a lot of moisture because of cold air, wind and even indoor heat. That’s why it’s so important to change your routine and choose heavier moisturizers like body butters and oils. Here are some of my favorite winter beauty buys:
FOR YOUR HAIR
Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil. Price: $14.00 (0.5 oz) — This Moroccan oil is rich in vitamin E and can be used as a daily moisturizer as well as treating split ends and softening cuticles.
One trendy accessory at last night’s Golden Globe Awards was the baby bump. Mommies/Soon-to-be mommies Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde and Drew Barrymore were glowing as they showed off their fab designer gowns and bumps on the red carpet.
Kerry Washington’s understated custom Balenciaga gown was a typical look for the Scandal star and Golden Globe nominee. The classic silhouette, embellished brooch on the chest and pale green color was a feminine and beautiful choice.
Drew Barrymore went with a colorful and detailed gown from Monique Lhuillier. The red and pink floral appliques on the sheer white fabric create a whimsical effect, which was very pretty and fitting for Ms. Barrymore.
Olivia Wilde was my favorite red carpet mommy. Not only is this similar to my personal maternity style, but she was serving a whole lot of sexy on the red carpet. The shimmering green Gucci gown fitted her curves very nicely. The ombre hair, minimal accessories and nude lips said fashionably pregnant.
What’s your favorite look?
Nowadays, my favorite way to ring in the new year is dancing around the house and watching the ball drop with my noisy munchkins. Although this year, I’m considering having some adult fun while they enjoy the night with Grandma.
Either way, a NYE-appropriate outfit with all the glitz and glam is necessary for any celebration. Here are a few non-dress ideas that can take you from a NYC lounge to an intimate house party:
Michael Kors sequin trousers $320 on farfetch.com , Halston Heritage tube top $115, Sergio Rossi d’orsay $755, Halogen clutch $88 at Nordstrom and Shameless shoulder duster earrings $45
I have never purchased or downloaded a single Beyonce track prior to the release of this self-entitled album. Yet, I consider myself a fan. I like her music, but I really love the visual expression of who she is as an artist. The fashion, the hair, the makeup and dancing.
You’re probably thinking that still doesn’t make me a fan. It’s ok. Beyonce gets it. She (and her genius marketing team) know that all fans weren’t created equal. I think that’s the real reason behind this visual album. With 14 songs and 17 videos, there’s something on this album for everybody.
While some of us are breaking down the lyrics to “Drunk in Love”, I’m just stuck on the incredible style she’s serving with the fashion makeup and these hot hairdos. How many of us will be inspired to try the wavy bob, finger waves or long platinum tresses?
I’ve never been big on dropping hints or putting in requests when it comes to gifts. I totally believe that it’s the thought that counts and the more thoughtful they are, the more I’ll love the gift.
Although if money was no object, my holiday shopping list would definitely include these luxurious treats just for moi:
At this moment, you’re probably in full holiday party mode. You’ve got the outfits together (hopefully) but could use a few beauty tips to complete your look. Hair, makeup and let’s never forget that manicure.
This season, a well put together look includes a standout mani. It’s all about bold shades and textures, and that’s why I love SinfulColors new Crystal Crushes collection. These gem-inspired nail polishes come in eight vibrant shades. With a 3D texture and pearlized finish, this is the perfect way to add some glam to your office party attire or compliment your hot night-out ensemble.
My favorites from the collection are Emerald Envy and Ruby Mine. It was easy to apply with just two coats and dries really fast! The most wonderful thing about SinfulColors collection is that you don’t have to fork out $20 (the cost of a mani) for a nail polish. It’s available exclusively at Walgreens stores for only $2.99 each.

Now that I have a boy and a girl, I’m beginning to notice the big scam behind these gender-specific toys. Take for example the Leap Pad tablet that I bought for my daughter last Christmas. I initially wanted to purchase the green and white tablet so that both kids could share it. But, the salesperson pointed out that the green was for boys and the lavender was for girls. So guess what I did? I got suckered into buying a tablet that my daughter has outgrown and that I’m just not liberal enough to pass on to my son. Well, I’m sorta kidding but you get my point.
Having two kids that are only a year and a half a part means that they’ll spend a lot of time sharing and playing with each other. Since they can’t share clothes, I’m making sure that this Christmas list includes toys that they can both enjoy. I’ve handpicked these cool toys (for little boys or girls) from some of my favorite stores, and they’re all under $25! Happy Shopping…

While the world mourns a hero, heaven welcomes one of the greatest souls to walk the earth. Nelson Mandela passed away yesterday at the age of 95.
I am old enough to remember Apartheid and how the world celebrated his freedom after 27 years in prison. This morning as I browsed the web, it’s moving to see how the world remembers his legacy and life.
From his personal style on USA.com to a photographic journey of his struggles via TIME.com, here are my favorite journalistic tributes to Nelson Mandela…
