Hey, remember the last time you shopped for a coat? It had to be fitted, tapered, slimming, feminine — the perfect fit. Well, you might want to tuck that coat in the back of your closet. This season, it’s all about an effortless-chic and laid-back look.
Whether you call it oversize or boyfriend, the trendiest coat right now can be found in a range of colors, prints and price points. Yep, no splurging necessary because I found the coolest oversize/boyfriend coats for under $20o
But, remember to keep these 2 simple tips in mind to pull off this look:
1. DO NOT get a coat from the menswear department or actually wear your BF/Husband’s coat. You’ll run the risk of looking sloppy if the shoulders are too wide and the sleeves are super long.
2. DO NOT wear too many layers or bulky pieces under this coat. Everything under your oversize coat should be fitted or you’ll end up looking bulky and a few pounds heavier.

As a blogger, I get to test a lot of beauty products but only a few will end up here. I have far from perfect skin so when I find a product that really helps to improve my overall complexion, I’m always eager to share.
What do you know about activated charcoal? Honestly, I’ve never heard of it until I came across Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. Of course, I did my own little research on WebMD and Livestrong.com and found that activated charcoal is just common charcoal that is heated to become more absorbent. It is used to treat a number of conditions such as heartburn, poisoning, stomach bloating as well as anti-aging and detoxification.
This Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask helps to unclog pores and leaves my skin feeling super clean, smooth and brighter. If you have acne prone skin like me, you’ll find that clearer skin means fewer breakouts. I use it once a week with my regular skincare regimen and unlike most facial mask, I haven’t experience any dryness or redness.
This is one product that I will be using over and over again! Try it for yourself at Origins.com.
You really don’t have to do much to dress up a pair of jeans these days. It’s so easy to find a variety of colors, prints and embellishments, and this season I’m loving the plaid, leather and moto look .

In case you slept under a rock last night, Olivia Pope almost got blown to bits by a mom seeking to avenge her son’s murder. Cyrus seemed to be covering up a dirty little secret that involved Olivia’s dad and something called “Remington”. And oh…Huck attempted to take out the devilish Mr. Pope.
All that drama yet, I was more anxious to see my favorite accessory from Olivia’s wardrobe. A while back, Scandal’s costume designer Lyn Paola tweeted a pic of several Prada bags that Olivia would rock this season.
No Prada last night but let’s rewind to that off white, calfskin leather tote from episode 1…
The Prada tote features double handles with a snap tab, silver-tone hardware and metal feet to protect the bottom. Yes, you can get Olivia Pope’s Prada bag for $2,200 or you can have a stylishly scaled down version from Kate Spade for $378 at Saks Fifth Ave! Love?
Everybody and their mama is buzzing about The Best Man sequel. I can’t believe it’s been 14 years since this romantic comedy got us all caught up in the drama, lies and betrayal.
Now Harper, Robin, Jordan and the rest of the crew return to theaters on November 15 in The Best Man Holiday, and ummm have you seen how incredibly hot and glamorous the ladies are looking on the November issue of Ebony?
Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Monica Calhoun, Regina Hall and Melissa De Sousa are channeling their inner goddesses with romantic curls, plum/berry stained lips and sexy smoky eyes. Love it!
Last year, we stumbled upon the best family-friendly Halloween event right here in Brooklyn. We found out about the Halloween Haunted Walk in Prospect Park the day prior and decided to stop by with the kids. Let’s just say we weren’t ready for all the fun activities and festive atmosphere.
I’ve been waiting a whole year to do it again and this time, we’re planning a full day in costumes. If you’re looking for family Halloween fun, here’s a lineup of frightfully-fun events in NYC parks:
Halloween Haunted Walk & Houlihan Lokey Halloween Carnival in PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN
Saturday, October 26, 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Nethermead & Lookout Hill
The beloved Halloween Haunted Walk is back and scarier than ever! Lurking high on Lookout Hill are zombies, wolf men, headless horsemen, good and bad witches, and other creepy characters. Visitors brave enough to experience this harrowing hike should head to Lookout Hill. The Halloween Haunted Walk is suitable for children accompanied by parents/guardians or older siblings (though it may be frightening for very young children).
There’s also the Houlihan Lokey Carnival on the Nethermead featuring all kinds of fun, games and seasonal treats. Begin at Prospect Park Southwest and 16th St. The Haunted Walk and Carnival is open to all and completely free of charge.

I can’t tell you how many times my Little Black Dress has saved the day, and your list is probably as long as mine. Old reliable. That’s why I’m so excited about this season’s new Little Black Dress in leather!
At first, I thought how many times and ways can you really wear a leather (or faux leather) dress? But then I noticed that it’s not that kind of leather dress. It’s not the clingy, micro mini dress that you might have worn at 20. This Little Black Leather Dress is knee length or just above in a timeless sheath silhouette. It’s also light on your purse and animal rights-friendly, if you opt for faux leather instead of genuine leather.
GET OLIVIA’S LOOK FOR UNDER $200
Last night, Olivia attempted to save the image of the poor White House intern in a navy military peplum jacket from Alexander McQueen and white wide leg pants.
The jacket retails for around $1700, but here’s how you can get the complete look for under $200!
Here’s a treat you won’t have to splurge on –spa treatments for just $50! Spa Week returns on October 14th through the 20th and hundreds of spas and wellness centers across the country will offer two to three full service treatments for $50 each.
What’s really impressive is that the options go far beyond a basic facial or Swedish massage. Almost every spa or wellness center offer unique, signature services such as the Coconut Milk Body Polish at Allure Day Spa or the 24 Carat Gold Cleopatra Facial at Antoinette Boudoir Spa. Sounds enticing?
You can view a list of participating spas in your area and get more information at SpaWeek.com but hurry because there are only 4 days left!
Splurge-Worthy Fall Booties
On most days, I’m a very practical shopper. I analyze everything based on whether it’s a need versus want, a long term or short term investment and if I can get a comparable product for less.
Then, every once in a while there’s that one-of-a-kind, must-have, splurge-worthy item that catches my eye. Certainly, I’ll try to create a logical reason to spend all that cash, but it’s just plain lust.
Honestly, we all deserve a treat sometimes. I mean don’t we treat our kids to cotton candy, ice cream and amusement parks? Enough said.
This is my treat to you…happy shopping!
