Our Halloween fun started this weekend with a friend’s birthday costume party, and we still have three more events ahead. Let’s do the math – two kids, four events and two costumes each. It can all add up to money you don’t want to spend on items the kids will only wear once.
Infant/Toddler Round Up Cowgirl Costume $15 at Target
Infant/Toddler Midnight Ninja Costume $10 at Target
Last night, Olivia Pope was a woman in distress but damn did she look fabulous in another standout signature-white piece. Everyone’s talking about the Burberry Prorsum white caped trench coat worn by Kerry Washington on the premiere of Scandal season 3. It’s a modern version of an archived design made from a rich cotton silk material and features a flattering canopy cape.
Of course, it’s sold out almost everywhere and you will end up paying $2,595. Don’t get discouraged. I found a worthy look-alike from Acne — a linen blend trench with a caped overlay. Just add your own belt to complete the look, and it’s only $467.50 on sale at Farfetch.com! You can thank me now.
Chances are you’ll be doing some shopping this month, so why not give back to help in the research and treatment of breast cancer. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and both public and private organizations are collaborating on many levels to educate people about the disease and provide greater access to services.
Once again, the beauty industry is joining the fight against breast cancer with limited editions of popular beauty products. These are just some of my favorites but you can find a variety of products by typing “breast cancer awareness” in the search field or ask a sales person while shopping.
1. Essie “Pink Works” for Breast Cancer Awareness – $8 at Macys
2. Marc Jacobs Daisy Hot Pink Eau De Parfum – $79 at Nordstrom
I know you had one in the 90s or maybe your mother had one in the 70s. Whether it was leather, suede, wool, reversible, trimmed or fully lined, The Shearling is one of the hottest trends I can remember.
This season, your favorite designers have recycled this trend with a not-so-bulky and more slimming silhouette. There are so many looks to choose from, but my favorite is Karl Donoghue’s belted paneled leather coat on Net-a-Porter.com. It features an exaggerated shearling collar with a two-way zip at the front.

Yes, Catherine Malandrino is the newest designer to team up with Kohl’s for its DesigNation concept which features premier designer fashions based on international inspiration! The Parisian-inspired collection launches today in stores and at Kohls.com with prices ranging from $36 to $130.
I’m a huge fan of all things Catherine Malandrino, but I am also very skeptical about these designer/department store collaborations. Some designers (and I won’t call any names), have put out hideous, mass productions for the sake of jumping on the bandwagon.
Catherine Malandrino does something very different, and I think you’ll like it…a lot! I’m absolutely in love with this collection because:
This season’s lip colors are deep, rich wine or plum colored. Be sure to apply lip balm first and use a quality, moisturizing lipstick that won’t cause cracking or dryness like Bobbi Brown’s lip color in Crimson ($24).
When you’re Kerry Washington, everyone expects you to be fabulous and flawless on the red carpet. Last night, the Scandal star and Outstanding Lead Actress nominee did not disappoint. Kerry arrived at the 2013 Emmy Awards in a beautiful blush-colored Marchesa gown with gold and beaded details (I get goosebumps just looking at the intricate design of this dress).
Another favorite on the red carpet was Kate Mara in J. Mendel. The sexiness of the mesh-lace bodice and double panel skirt with a high slit is perfectly understated because of the all-white color scheme. Her sleek hair and very little accessories completed this look…winner!
So Eva Mendes recently launched her own fashion line for New York & Company. The launch party was held on Wednesday (Sept 18) at the flagship store on Lexington Ave in NYC and yes, Eva arrived looking fabulous in pieces from the collection.
At first, I thought it was an odd pairing but it all makes sense after looking at her ensembles over the years. I won’t lie for the sake of losing any future sponsorships– I’m not a fan of New York & Company. However, I will say that there are some very wearable and stylish pieces in this collection.
If I had to put together a few outfits from the entire collection, I would go for the leopard print elastic cuffed soft pants with the black jacket, the high waist pencil skirt with the coral bow blouse and a pair of nude pointed toe pumps for both fits. Yeaaaaah I could work it like Eva! What do you think…Love? No Love?
