After 15 years of being together, my husband and I are somewhat untraditional when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day. Not that we’re not romantic, but romance means different things to different people and, more importantly, at different stages of our lives and relationships.
There was a time I would gush over candle light dinners and rose petals on the bed with a champagne breakfast the next morning. Nowadays, if he vacuums, washes the dishes, and makes breakfast all in one week? Bonus in the romance department! For him, romance has dwindled down to Chinese take-out with red wine and an entire season of House of Cards.
I sat through the entire Grammys waiting for that one amazing performance that never happened. Last night’s award show left me feeling confused and cheated or as my friend Natlee Green perfectly stated via Facebook, “3.5 hours of my life I’ll never get back.”
From the oddball onstage collaborations to the red carpet mishaps, it was one of the worst shows ever. I was in total disbelief that there was hardly anything positive to take away from the show. So, I turned to a few Facebook friends to help give an impartial review of the 2015 Grammy red carpet looks:
I’m committed to this natural hair journey now more than ever. It started as a means to replenish my damaged tresses, but it’s not just about me. I’ve learned so much about natural hair, which makes taking care of my daughter’s hair easier and less stressful.
I might complain that Blake inherited my thick and unruly mane, but I really love the volume and natural length of our hair. For the first time in all my 36 years, I finally have some good hair products and resources to help bring out the true beauty of my hair.
When I was a kid, all my mother had was a jar of Dax, some TCB oil or Lottabody! Blake will be well equipped to go chemical-free with stronger healthier hair.
Since Tamera Mowry-Housley announced her second pregnancy back in January, she has made every effort to wear the cutest bump-clinging ensembles. I’m loving her maternity style, especially this red hot number that she wore on today’s episode of The Real.
The talk show host posted this pic on her Instagram page with caption “Loving this look for @therealdaytime today!” The dress is from Helmut Lang and retails for about $300, and her shoes are by Nicholas Kirkwood. She completed the look with a silver cuff and matching earrings.
If your Valentine’s Day plans include a romantic dinner at home, these aphrodisiac recipes will surely add an extra dose of passion and love to your night.
I was drawn to these recipes because I love pomegranate, but I also discovered that Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, was credited with planting the first pomegranate tree. The pomegranate’s rich antioxidants are said to increase testosterone in both men and women, which leads to heightened moods and increased sexual desire.
Blueberries are also known to increase sexual desire in men, as their rich antioxidants helps to relax bloods vessels, lower cholesterol and improve circulation and well…you know the rest.
With that said, you might want to add some extra servings of blueberries to this Blueberry Pomegranate Salad and then wash it down with a few rounds of Pomegranate Champagne Cocktails…cheers!!
They say the greatest love of all is learning to love yourself. Well, that’s actually a song by Whitney Houston. However, I’m sure you’ve heard it from many sources and in more ways than one.
This Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to put some of that self-love into practice. If you’re single, shower yourself with love by getting whatever your heart desires. If you’re married or just past the formalities of the dating game, I say let him know exactly what’s on your wishlist.
This doesn’t happen very often, but I was wrong. My prediction that Katy Perry would outdo last year’s Super Bowl performance was way off the mark.
Two minutes into the show, my 4 year old daughter summed it up with one word, “Seriously?” No, they didn’t seriously think that the special effects, sea creatures and intergalactic monsters would make up for all that lackluster singing and dancing?
Well, maybe they saw this disaster before it happened, and that could explain why they added Missy Elliot to show. Yep, Missy saved the day! Well, truthfully, she only saved about three minutes of that horrible show, and gave life to some of the memes that followed on social media.
Honestly, I’m not a football fan so tomorrow’s all about the halftime show, food and drinks. Btw, Katy Perry is the lead performer this year and is expected to bring out Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot!? I think she might just out shine Bruno Mar’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl.
Anyway, let’s get back to my original topic — FOOD! If you’ve been enjoying Tammi’s Super Bowl recipe ideas for the past few weeks, I think you’ll appreciate what we have PINNED for you. We’ve put together 25 tasty food and drink recipes from Pinterest for tomorrow’s big game.
We all share the challenges of switching up our beauty and makeup regimen during the winter. Regardless of your skin tone, it’s easy to look pale, chalky or dull this time of year.
Adding a touch of shimmer or metallic makeup can give you that summer glow you’re longing for. You can try this look during the day by applying a nude color under a shadow like Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Shimmer Wash. For your lips, choose a nude lip gloss with some shimmer.
If you’re heading out for the evening, use a smokey gray or darker shadow to contour your eyes and then fill in the lids with a metallic shadow like Nars’ Silent Night. A gold or bronze lipstick is the perfect way to play up your lips after hours.
Here are some of the prettiest metallic and shimmery makeup for this season:
Varsity jackets are a hot trend right now and have always been a classic look for the fellas. Yet, Beyonce’s gold sleeved varsity jacket, which she recently wore to a basketball game, took this look to another level.
Only King Bey can pull off chic, comfy and glamorous all in one outfit. I like that she paired the gold with all black, and the t-shirt also added a casual feel to the entire ensemble.
The jacket is a limited edition from Opening Ceremony and includes a hidden mophie pack to charge your Android or iPhone! But wait…it’s also unisex! So for a retail value of $465, I guess you can say this jacket is worth its weight in gold.
Let’s be real though. I don’t need a jacket to charge my cell phone, and I can’t see myself wearing it for more than one season. This look requires a good knock-off, and I found a couple for under $100.
