In the face of stiff competition among beauty brands, there are so many varieties when it comes to choosing the perfect mascara. It can really be a daunting task. We don’t just mean perfect for the sake of trend, but one that specifically works for you! Still, many factors need to be taken into consideration when buying and applying mascara if you want a great look. That’s why we’ve put together these tips to help you narrow down your options.
I’m so excited that summer is officially here, but along with that comes the daunting task of switching up my beauty routine. As soon as I get one regimen down, here comes another season and more products to buy.
For the past year, I’ve become fully committed to finding more natural and healthier ways of eating and taking care of myself. And so, this summer I plan on using more homemade remedies.
Here are some of my tried and true beauty fixes that you can grab straight from your kitchen. When you think about all the money it costs for some of those manufactured products, these DIY ideas are definitely worth the try.
Lemon Juice for Oily Skin
The secret to keeping your face shine-free this summer is a freshly squeezed lemon! Not only is lemon juice a great astringent, but it also helps to brighten skin and reduce discoloration. Just one teaspoon of lemon juice and one-half teaspoon of distilled water will help to improve your skin tone and decrease oiliness.
I try to avoid polishing my nails at home because it’s always a major fail. Between taking care of the kids and handling household chores, I could never complete both hands or even get them to fully dry without a smudge. On top of that, the darn polish only lasts for a day or two after all that work.
So a few weeks ago when I got the latest SinfulColors Spring Fever Collection, I was both excited and overwhelmed at the thought of taking on such a challenge. How would I make it to the second coat without Jordan needing a diaper change? Would I really have time to sit and wait for these nails to dry before getting a snack request from Blake?
It seems like my hair grew so much faster with a relaxer but shrinkage will create that illusion. I’ve been transitioning for a year and have not used any heat for over 6 months. Hence, it’s hard to say exactly how many inches I’ve grown so far. At this point, I’m learning not to focus so much on length.
I’ve always had long hair and could never image myself with short hair. So, imagine my struggle of having to cut so many inches during this transition. The good news is I’m half way there, and I’m even more motivated now that I can see my real curl pattern!
Another bit of encouragement came through a conversation with another natural while shopping at the mall. She did the big chop about a year ago and shared stories about her trials and triumphs of going natural. I realized that I was making good progress and managed to keep my hair pretty healthy during this transitioning period.
There aren’t many TV shows that can get my undivided attention for an entire hour. But, for the past few Wednesday nights I put everything on hold just to watch Empire. The drama filled story line and colorful characters will have you hooked and itching for more.
Still, the main draw for me is Taraji P. Henson. The 44 year old actress and mother has a unique way of making her characters so believable and so likable. Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji on the Fox Network hit series, is an ex-con who was released early from a 17 year sentence and is desperately trying to get her life and family back.
I’m committed to this natural hair journey now more than ever. It started as a means to replenish my damaged tresses, but it’s not just about me. I’ve learned so much about natural hair, which makes taking care of my daughter’s hair easier and less stressful.
I might complain that Blake inherited my thick and unruly mane, but I really love the volume and natural length of our hair. For the first time in all my 36 years, I finally have some good hair products and resources to help bring out the true beauty of my hair.
When I was a kid, all my mother had was a jar of Dax, some TCB oil or Lottabody! Blake will be well equipped to go chemical-free with stronger healthier hair.
They say the greatest love of all is learning to love yourself. Well, that’s actually a song by Whitney Houston. However, I’m sure you’ve heard it from many sources and in more ways than one.
This Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to put some of that self-love into practice. If you’re single, shower yourself with love by getting whatever your heart desires. If you’re married or just past the formalities of the dating game, I say let him know exactly what’s on your wishlist.
We all share the challenges of switching up our beauty and makeup regimen during the winter. Regardless of your skin tone, it’s easy to look pale, chalky or dull this time of year.
Adding a touch of shimmer or metallic makeup can give you that summer glow you’re longing for. You can try this look during the day by applying a nude color under a shadow like Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Shimmer Wash. For your lips, choose a nude lip gloss with some shimmer.
If you’re heading out for the evening, use a smokey gray or darker shadow to contour your eyes and then fill in the lids with a metallic shadow like Nars’ Silent Night. A gold or bronze lipstick is the perfect way to play up your lips after hours.
Here are some of the prettiest metallic and shimmery makeup for this season:
Now that the holidays are behind us, now is the time to focus on YOU! All the things we enjoy about the holidays, such as entertaining, gift shopping, and redecorating, can translate into a lot stress.
That’s why the beginning of the year is always a great time to unwind and enjoy a relaxing spa treatment. Plus, the damaging effects of winter on your skin calls for some extra TLC.
Here are a few winter skincare treatments to try at home or at the spa:
I always enter the nail salon with the intention of getting some super-trendy, eye-catching design. Then 10 minutes into my mani I get practical.
I’m a minimalist when it comes to my nails, and the craziest I’ll get is bright yellow or orange polish. As a mommy of a 2 year old and 4 year old, I also prefer to keep my nails short and think it’s not an ideal length for fancy nail charms, stones and art.
Well, after finding some simple yet eye-catching nail designs on Pinterest, I’ll have to rethink my weekend mani ideas. These trendy winter nail colors and designs are the perfect look for short nails.
