At this moment, you’re probably in full holiday party mode. You’ve got the outfits together (hopefully) but could use a few beauty tips to complete your look. Hair, makeup and let’s never forget that manicure.
This season, a well put together look includes a standout mani. It’s all about bold shades and textures, and that’s why I love SinfulColors new Crystal Crushes collection. These gem-inspired nail polishes come in eight vibrant shades. With a 3D texture and pearlized finish, this is the perfect way to add some glam to your office party attire or compliment your hot night-out ensemble.
My favorites from the collection are Emerald Envy and Ruby Mine. It was easy to apply with just two coats and dries really fast! The most wonderful thing about SinfulColors collection is that you don’t have to fork out $20 (the cost of a mani) for a nail polish. It’s available exclusively at Walgreens stores for only $2.99 each.

I spent the weekend testing out product review samples, and honestly, I was a little hesitant to try anything that involved a razor. Let me keep it real — I’m hairy and have tried every temporary hair removal method out there. Waxing, sugaring, depilatories and shaving with just about every gel and cream. Of course, shaving is my least favorite, and there’s always a guarantee that I’ll end up with a few nicks and cuts.
After trying Shave With Benefits Pomegranate+Mango shave foam, I wanted to shout it out loud via all my social media networks. I immediately loved the luxurious, tropical scent. Although it wasn’t as thick or creamy as popular shaving products, this lightweight foam worked even better. The razor just seemed to glide over my skin without causing a single nick or cut. The tingling feeling from the peppermint and tea tree oil ingredients made it a pleasurable experience and left my legs so smooth and silky.
As a blogger, I get to test a lot of beauty products but only a few will end up here. I have far from perfect skin so when I find a product that really helps to improve my overall complexion, I’m always eager to share.
What do you know about activated charcoal? Honestly, I’ve never heard of it until I came across Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. Of course, I did my own little research on WebMD and Livestrong.com and found that activated charcoal is just common charcoal that is heated to become more absorbent. It is used to treat a number of conditions such as heartburn, poisoning, stomach bloating as well as anti-aging and detoxification.
This Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask helps to unclog pores and leaves my skin feeling super clean, smooth and brighter. If you have acne prone skin like me, you’ll find that clearer skin means fewer breakouts. I use it once a week with my regular skincare regimen and unlike most facial mask, I haven’t experience any dryness or redness.
This is one product that I will be using over and over again! Try it for yourself at Origins.com.
We all love to try different looks with our hair and with Black hair, the options are plenty. I’ve gone from straight to curly to blonde and/or braided! Still, no matter what hair style I’m sporting, my number one concern is to keep my natural hair healthy. So, I’m very skeptical when it comes to styling products like gels, holding sprays and polishers that can leave your hair damaged or lifeless in the end.
Beverly Johnson Haircare, a new line of styling and conditioning products, is the perfect solution. I’m not too surprised at how great these products work since super models are basically beauty experts in my book — who would know more about stressed tresses than someone who changes hairstyles on the hour.
My favorite from the line are the Light Polishing Shine Spray ($6.99) and the Relaxing Mousse ($4.99). The polishing shine works as a leave-in treatment that softens and shines without a heavy feeling and the mousse gives a soft hold for a sleek ponytail or curls with no cracking or flaking!
You can check out these and other products from the line at Target or www.beverlyjohnsonhaircare.com .
M.A.C. to the BEACH
Okay, it’s not really makeup created specifically for the beach (although you can if you want to), but the new M.A.C. to the Beach collection will give you that golden, bronzy, sun-kissed glow. With bronzers, shadows, blushes and lip color that will have you looking like you’re fresh off an island tour.
My fave from this collection is the lipstick which comes in three colors – Funbathing, Thrill and Lazy Day. While Funbathing is perfect on darker skin, all three colors would work for caramel or lighter skin gals. It gives the lips a soft neutral look that also work well with bold, bright eyes.
BEAUTY DEALS WE LOVE
Sephora never fails when it comes to great beauty deals. On sale right now is the Sephora Collection Colorful 9 eyeshadow palette for just $15! Originally priced at $28, these shimmering shadows come in 9 high-pigment shades that will definitely give you soft, sexy eyes for a evening to night time look. What I love about Sephora’s eyeshadows is that they glide on easily and last for hours.
This summer we’ve gone completely retro with nail color! It’s bold, playful and inspired by butterflies? OPI’s new collection, Summer Flutter, was stimulated by the whimsy of butterflies and comes in four hot colors from the 80s (and 70s). All four colors, Catch Me in Your Net, Flit a Bit, Flower to Flower and Wing It, are fun and flirty for a weekend or party look.
During my pregnancy, so many women kept telling me about different methods to prevent stretch marks and now that I’ve had the baby, a lot of my friends will ask “did you get any stretch marks?” Honestly, stretch marks have been a part of my life since puberty, so getting them during pregnancy was inevitable. The good thing about it is that they are usually smooth in texture and fade over time. However, I knew that nine months of belly stretching was nothing compared to a little growth spurt at 12 years old. So, I prepared for the worst.
I spent around eighty bucks a month on a cream that promised to prevent and reduce stretch marks, and while it worked for about eight and a half months, I started seeing those zebra stripes on my lower abdomen towards the end of my final trimester. That’s when I decided to skip the expensive stuff and try Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks. After all, it’s been around for years and used by generations of pregnant women before all the pricey “miracle” creams hit the market.
After two painful days of sitting hours at a time and taking breaks to ease my aching back or just calm the 6 pound baby that seemed to be practicing self defense in my uterus, my extensions are finally done! These half braided, half wet and wavy extensions are exactly what I need in my life. The only maintenance required for the next couple months will be keeping my scalp clean and keeping it tangle free and shiny.
One must-have product that I’ve always used for extensions is Fantasia IC Herbal/Vitamin Braid Sheen.
