Every mom will agree that pregnancy is one of the most amazing experiences in a woman’s life. But, it never really feels that way when you’re living in the moment! To be honest, there’s nothing blissful about raging hormones, morning sickness and weight gain in all the wrong places.
Don’t get me wrong. At some point, you find a nice balance somewhere between overabundant love for your little one and all those darn side effects. However, pregnancy can be so overwhelming that some expecting mommies forget to take care of themselves in the process.
One of the biggest signs of neglect is everyday attire. Being pregnant doesn’t mean you can’t look fashionable or have to buy everything three sizes bigger. In fact, many popular designers now have maternity lines and offer more form-fitting clothing to show off your baby bump.
If you’re a mommy-to-be and still trying to figure out your maternity wardrobe, there are a few basic rules to help you look and feel your best. We’ve put together some tips on looks you should avoid while pregnant. Take it all as a bad example and learn from it!
When celebrities walk the red carpet at any event, the first thing everyone wants to know is “who are they wearing?” Well, 18 year old Kyemah McEntyre from New Jersey probably never imagined that her name would create such a buzz at the BET Awards this Sunday.
The high school student designed her own prom dress and, almost instantly, it became one of the most shared photos on social media. The gorgeous Ankara print gown was a different take on the “traditional” prom dress and an inspiring message for young girls who dare to be different and not go with the crowd.
But, this story gets better. Naturi Naughton, who is best known for her role in the movie Notorious and was also a member of the R&B girl group 3LW, reached out to Kyemah and asked her to design a dress for the BET Awards!
History has a way of repeating itself, and since the BET Awards has a history of horrific red carpet fashion…well, you get my point! It’s puzzling that some of the same celebrities who are typically well-dressed at other red carpet events, just show up at the BET Awards like it was an afterthought.
Of course, I’ve noticed the same trend at the Billboard Music Awards. Perhaps, it’s a matter of low expectations on the red carpet that result in limited motivation from both stylists and celebrities. Whatever the reason, it leaves us with too many failed ensembles to call out. Even our favorite dressed celebrities made the list with very little effort.
Rihanna, who decided to skip the red carpet, easily gets best dressed in a Giorgio Armani gold tuxedo shorts suit. Everything about her look was effortless and flawless; from the slicked back ponytail to her simple black sandals.
While I’m not thrilled about these other celebrity looks, the appear to be the best from last night’s popular black and white theme.
Summers just aren’t the same now that I’m a mother. As much I look forward to warmer weather and more family time, I dread the responsibility that comes with being The Planner. Things can get even more stressful when it comes to vacations. You know how it is – finding the ideal destination, sticking to the budget, shopping for the trip and lastly, making sure your wardrobe is cute enough for family photos.
If your vacation planning always seem to playout in that order, this blog post is going to make packing for your next getaway so much easier. The first thing you need to do is avoid shopping for too many items that probably won’t make it out of your luggage. Next, make a list of all the essential pieces you’ll need, browse the latest trends and take advantage of sales or similar looks for less (remember, stick to the budget).
I found some must-have pieces that are both stylish and effortless, especially if you have small kids like me. Here’s a rundown of what every fashion savvy mommy needs to vacation in style this summer:
1. The Message T-Shirt or Tank. Whether it’s inspiring, funny, or sexy, you’ll find a message tank or t-shirt to match your personality. This cute message tank (pictured above) from Mango.com is $29.99 and perfect with shorts or skirts.
In case you missed it, Kim Kardashian West revealed that she’s expecting a second baby during a teaser for the upcoming season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Now, everyone’s taking bets that the Wests will soon welcome a little South (insert trombone sound effect here) and reflecting on her best maternity looks.
But, let’s be honest. Kim Kardashian’s maternity style was not so good. Many of her outfit choices were simply unflattering, and the fact that she tried to wear regular clothing instead of maternity clothes should be a lesson to all expecting mommies.
Here are 3 things we can take away from Kim’s maternity style mistakes:
1. Maternity clothes exist for a reason so wear it. Buying a size or three bigger in regular clothes is not a good idea. During pregnancy, you typically appear larger in the tummy area so wearing a size 10 when you’re only a size 4 with a huge belly, will make you look awkward.
Gone are the days when I would just throw on a pair of heels for work or simply because it complimented my outfit. These days, being comfortable is just as much of a requirement as being in the latest trend.
So imagine how excited I am that someone decided to take those awfully man-ish yet comfy Birkenstock sandals and make them cute! It’s really one of the hottest sandals this season, and you can have your pick of patent leather, floral, metallic and more. Even designers like Givenchy have copied the German shoemaker.
I’m not saying that we shouldn’t wear short shorts, but no mother wants a crack or cheek exposed while out and about with her kids. Well, I know I don’t. Being able to move with ease or without a wardrobe malfunction, is even more important for moms with little ones.
When it comes to shorts, the Bermuda look is the way to go (and not just for moms). This summer, you’ll see trendy variations from designers like J Crew, J Brand and more. It’s a hot closet staple and the ultimate mommy shorts.
Now look, these are not the Bermuda shorts you wear with polo shirts and a fanny pack. You can find these shorts in many versions from denim to sequins; even some classic navy Bermuda shorts can take you from the company’s summer outing to a family fun day and then date night.
Here are some ideas on how to style your Bermuda shorts for any occasion…
This top ten list is going to confuse some people as well as upset a lot of Beyonce fans, so let me explain. Every year the Costume Institute at the Met Museum holds this fundraiser which also kicks off its fashion exhibit.
This year’s theme was China Through the Looking Glass. Now, I’m just going to take a wild guess and say that people would be expected to wear Chinese inspired fashion…right?
Now, it’s not mandatory that celebrities go along with the theme but why not? Why not pay homage to the curators and everyone who went through the trouble of planning this exhibit and event? Why not do something fun and unique instead of your typical skin tight, see-through, red carpet look (Beyonce)?
With that said, here’s Rihanna and other celebrities who slayed on the red carpet by dressing to uphold the theme…
Nothing compliments a barely there summer outfit like a hot pair of sandals. This season’s sandals are the only accessories you’ll need with blinged out designs from Mui Mui, Rene Caovilla, Kate Spade and more.
Whether you decide to splurge on a high-end pair of Gucci or opt for a more moderate priced shoe from Via Spiga, you’re surely make a bold statement in this summer’s fancy footwear.
Not only is Coachella one of the most star-studded music festivals, but it’s also the most fashionable. The event kicked off last weekend with A-listers like Kate Bosworth, Katie Perry and Rihanna rocking everything from Chanel to Coach.
But, leave it to King Bey to silence all the buzz about Rihanna’s big purple fur or Fergie’s fringed Giuseppe Zanotti boots. The most talked-about outfit is Beyonce’s $4,790 floral maxi dress from Saint Laurent. The “Flawless” superstar completed her ensemble with a suede fringed vest, ankle booties, a black fedora and sunglasses. The entire outfit is said to run about $7,000!!
I absolutely love this look and it’s just perfect for the whole Coachella/Woodstock festival vibe. Besides the fact that it might cost, 1 or 2 months salary, here are few things you should know about that dress:
