The good ole red, white, and blue is back. Just last year I was in New Orleans getting my eat on and now it’s 4th of July all over again, where does the time go! This year, I will kick-off part of Independence Day in Chicago (Windy City, here I come) and the remainder of the holidays partying it up for Nicky’s Birthday Bash at Crimson. With the 90 degree temps, I’m sure BBQ’s and beach parties will be all a blaze. As the host, it can be a bit overwhelming making dishes for your guests to enjoy—have no fear—here are a few ideas that all your friends will relish without breaking a summer sweat.
1. I love my new find Harry & David. They not only make the perfect fruit baskets but they can but together grilling sauces, marinades, smoked salmon, meats and nuts, cheeses and much more! I bought a basket from them for Father’s Day and loved how they put it all together and so did he. Check out some more at harryanddavid.com.
2. I once went to a BBQ where the best item at the shin ding was the margarita machine—LOVED IT! Although, everyone should bring a bottle—always keep frozen drinks on hand. There’s nothing like a cold, frozen cocktail to get the party started and cool you down.
I am guilty of making dating mistakes, whether it’s my passionate nature or my sarcasm and unwanted honesty, I fall into “oh no I didn’t just say that” category. To my relationship determent, it takes an equally crazy, sarcastic, brush-that-comment-off-your-shoulder, type of guy to deal with me. Due to my flippant, off-handed comments, I am bound to say something insulting or misguided without even realizing it. With the exception of a few dudes, they say nothing to “poor, unsuspecting me” and then it’s on to the next one.
Therefore, when I came across this article in Glamour Magazine, “10 Little Dating Mistakes That Could Be Keeping You Single,” I chuckled as I read all the other misguided, foolish stories of women who had no clue. Read on and share your thoughts.
Are you like me when it comes to dating? Do you happen to be unaware of the things you may say or do, even with someone you are interested in? How do you correct your actions? Do you just let it go and move on? How do women/men interact with you?
DELICIOUS INDIAN DELIGHTS AT TAMBA
By Miss Jane
Tamba, a traditional Indian restaurant run by delightful couple, the Maliks, offers diners a menu and ambiance both warm and full of options. Booths are a common fixture in this restaurant, providing a great environment for a lighthearted family meal or an intimate date with your significant other.
Start with one of their very affordable drinks (no more than $10) such as Indian Rain, which has pineapple rum, Hypnotic, and lime, or their special mango sangria, which is sweet and refreshing. For a stiffer beverage, try the Red Devil (think a creative take on Long Island Ice Tea) or the Volcano, made with rum, Kahlua, irish cream, and Grand Marnier.
For appetizers, try the Lasani Gobhi, a cauliflower dish sauteed in garlic and flavorful tomato sauce or the Curried Crab Cakes, which come with a tangy mint and tamarind chutney.
I love rice dishes, and Tamba does not disappoint with its biryani plates including the shrimp biryani with basmati rice cooked with shrimp, saffron, nuts and raisins, and the Kashmiri Biryani which is basmati rice cooked with assorted fruits, nuts, and raisins.
A great seafood meal to have is the Fish Moilee, made with tilapia cooked with ginger, mustard, and curry leaves in coconut milk stew. It comes with a fragrant rice and will warm your bones and excite your taste buds.
The Tamba Murg Delight, a dish with tender chicken stuffed with spinach, is great if you’re looking for a healthy dish to enjoy that isn’t too spicy. It comes with salad leaves and a tangy sauce that has a slight bite that hits u moments after consuming.
For the vegetarians, I’d recommend the Vegetable Jalfrezi, a dish with mixed veggies and assorted spices including a great hint of cilantro.
Make sure you order one of their Tandoori breads, baked to perfection in a special clay oven, such as the Kasmiri Naan (stuffed with ground lamb) and the Garlic Kulcha (cooked with garlic and herbs).
I finished my dining experience with the pistachio kulfi, a traditional Indian ice cream made with a touch of rose water. Delish!
18-course buffet $9.95, 12 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday – Saturday
Sunday brunch: $11.95, 12 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Deli That Goes a Long Way
Are you one of the long list of men who are tired of the fu fu spots your significant other drags you to each year? Not because it’s your favorite restaurant but hers. We know most men are simple and just want a day to themselves–to eat what they want, maybe watch a game or two. So introducing the Man sandwich from Ben’s Best, located on 96-40 Queens Blvd., Rego Park –get Dad something he wants?
You’re not going to find a better meaty, over stuffed deli sandwich than at Ben’s Best. They have Hot Corned Beef, Hot Pastrami, Roast Turkey, Salami and so much more. You can even make your own extra meat combo any two or three meats on our fresh baked bread. Here is a list of what we offer. Tell them NUBIA sent you and HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
We all remember the aggressive, often opinionated Omaraosa from Season 1 of Donald Trump’s hit series the Apprentice–will she’s back with her new show produced by who else but “The Donald.” Accurately titled: “Omarosa’s Ultimate Merger,” 12 gentlemen battle for the love and affection of this no-nonsense lady. SO who will win her heart, we at NUBIA, tracked down one bachelor Jason Grae and asked him about the show’s juicy secrets and his romantic life without giving it all away!
At about 11a.m., I was Jason’s wake-up call for our interview, after getting in the wee hours to pound the NYC pavement on of his spontaneous 2 a.m. jogs. After getting his mind clear, this romantic Virgo goes on to tell me about the misconceptions associated with Omarosa, the reality of “reality” TV and how romance is the way to keep any woman interested!
Q: Let’s get down to it, what is the original “bad-girl” Omarosa really like?
A: There is a brief laugh then he exclaims–She’s a woman.
Q: What does that mean?
A: Let me explain, yeah she’s ambitious, a real go-getter but at the end of the day, she wants to feel catered to at home. What she has going on at work—stays at work.
Q: So her power and status doesn’t intimidate you?
A: Not at all, only a man who has nothing going on in his own life would be intimidated by a successful woman. I am an entrepreneur, who has created a successful massage therapy company–Healing Hands Event Mobile Spa as well as my events planning business. My energy and passion is also geared towards my own ventures.
Statistics show that more Americans get less than the required 8-hours of sleep at night. What the hell are we doing once the sun goes down and the birds stop chirping? As for myself, I have no children to put to bed, homework to check or even a night gig, but I find myself doing laundry at midnight, while watching repeats of Criminal Minds on TV. Sleep, as we all know keep us at peak performance mode and makes us less irritable throughout the day. So why do we find so little time for Mr. Sandman yet expect to function at our 9-5 the next day? Here are a few tips to help you on your dreamland and wake up refreshed and roaring to go!
1. Is someone else keeping you up at night? Does your significant other’s snoring have you tossing and turning all night? Is that loud noise make you think of suffocating them with a pillow—have no fear, make an appoint to the doc’s office if those nose strips don’t work. It may be allergies or even a sinus infection—get it checked out.
I’m down with Kegels and think every girl should work out that pelvic muscle to keep things tight and right in the Va-Jay-Jay area—but is there seriously a dumbbell for the vagina and if so where can you buy it? Or better question, how do you use it?
The other day, I was doing some research in health and fitness for women and came across this new invention: A dumbbell for the vagina. Yikes, I wondered what man came up with this one but after an exaggerated sigh, I became a bit intrigued as to the use of this metal tool. To get a visual, imagine squeezing your vaginal muscles around a tampon, then holding these muscles for three seconds or longer, and then repeat for 10 sets. Honestly, I have a hard enough time doing sets at the gym 3x a week.
A New Coffee Spot in Town
Cappuccino, expresso, lattes oh my! These are only a few of the caffeine infused concoctions made at the cute Tribeca cafe shop on worth street. Not another Starbucks, this inspired coffee shop came from owner and coffee connoisseur Jodi, who love the bean she just had to share in this neighborhood.
This new Tribeca establishment garners the best coffee from all over world—from the likes of Ethiopia to Brazil. With the savvy Slayer machine–the only one of its kind in New York, along with the Clover brewing style, they can whip up a cup of your favorite drink in 45 seconds.
Whether it’s the very fruity Ethiopian coffee, with red and blueberry aromas or the Vietnamese concoction made with sweetened condensed milk, expresso, French roasted coffee and doplets of foam, its bittersweet chocolate after taste is a must-taste.
