Brazil, here I come or at least I’ll travel to the East Village until I can make my way to South America. Last week, I ate at the casual, energetic hotbed Esperanto Restaurant located on 9th and Ave C. The food was an aromatic blend of Brazilian, Chilean and Peruvian cultures to entice customers from all ethnicity and tastes. With dishes served up with smiles and an atmosphere filled with music and laughter—how can one not catch Brazilian fever.
If you find yourself in Alphabet City, dip into this exotic locale with its green and yellow hues, bamboo chairs and Brazilian motifs adorning the walls. Whether you’re in the mood to dine or have a refreshing drink, try their house special Mojito Royal served with champagne, sagatiba, fresh passion fruit and mint lime.
Savor their unique Crab and Banana leaf, marinated Tuna Ceviche in coconut milk and lime juice or stuffed Calamari as a starter. Leave room for entrees like: Carne Asada– grilled marinated skirt steak, with rice, black beans, guacamole and Chimayo salsa or the Pollo de la Casa, a marinated chicken in “to-die-for” adobe coriander sauce and paired with grilled corn and rice. Now what’s a meal without dessert—you must try the specialty Coconut Flan—it’s sinfully delicious!
Definitely not a family spot on Friday and Saturday nights, this South American spot has limited space and gets packed to capacity so reservations are strongly recommended. If you can’t get a seat, then sit by the bar and have a few drinks and appetizers before you head out for a night on the town.
