A ROMAN TREAT DOWNTOWN
There are tons of Italian restaurants, but none like West Village’s Emporio Restaurant. Located downtown, this swank Roman-style eatery has a mixture of old-world charm with its candlelight ambience, subtle yellow and gold hues, and wood burning brick oven as the aroma good food made with savory, tantalizing ingredients filters through the air.
Known for signature European-style personal size pizzas, sample the Prosciutto and Arugula with its light, crispy, thin-crust is the best I’ve tasted in the city.
From the charred-grilled Octopus and oysters to the Mediterranean deboned Branzino and homemade Setaro Mezzi Ragatoni pasta, there is something for every palate. Once you walk thru the doors, one must try the homemade pastas and other traditional Roman entrees. Although, not a full-service bar, you won’t miss it—besides authentic Italian food deserves a fantastic wine pairing.
Select from an assortment of wines, whether a red from Columbia or a sweet white from Sicily, order by the glass or an appropriately-priced bottle. If you prefer a mixed cocktail, choose from one of their signature drinks– my favorite, the Emporio Mango Mint, made with mint-sparkling Moscato, mango nectar and mint leaves.
An avid wine and cheese lover myself, Emporio boasts a wonderful quality of Italian cheese such as artisanal and cured charcuterie. Patrons can also indulge in from an array of seafood at the raw bar.
Remember to save room for dessert; you’ll need to end the night with the sweet Vanilla pannacotta with black plums and vicotto or the bittersweet chocolate ganache with maldon sea salt and caramel.
Serving up brunch, lunch and dinner as well as a late night meals, the menu changes according to the season with some organic and gluten free dishes integrated from local products like Flying Pigs Farm pork and Cato Corner Farm’s Hooligan cheese.
Perfect spot for a date or night on-the-town with friends, you can dress up or dress down but one thing each person has in common– the delicious food and attentive, “feel-like-your-family” service. You can’t go wrong dining at Emporio!
Italian’s sure no about romance, so if you’re still not sure where to venture off to for Valentine’s Day, Emporio offers a pri-fixe menu. Contact for more info and to make reservations.
