I’m from the island of Jamaica and like every Jamaican, I believe it’s the best place on earth (especially when it comes to vacations). I rarely venture out to any other island; mostly because of favoritism and love for my homeland. However, all of that changed during my recent visit to St. Lucia.
In case you’re not familiar with St. Lucia, it’s located in the eastern Caribbean just north of Barbados. With a relatively small population of 174,000, this tropical gem has a variety of quiet beaches and fishing villages as well as luxurious resorts.
I had the pleasure of staying at the Sandals Halcyon Beach Resort and Spa and must say it was the perfect choice for me. It was pure luxury from the exterior to interior. While Sandals boasts three all-inclusive resorts on the Island of St. Lucia, this resort is nestled in the midst of a tropical rainforest. Surrounded by mountains alongside a turquoise sea, it’s an intimate sanctuary which resonates the true meaning of the name Halcyon; which means calm, tranquil and peaceful. I needed to be pampered and this was it! The resort has been touted as “the Garden of Eden” with good reason! Its tropical gardens and inviting beaches had me in a trance.
Being that this was an all-inclusive resort, all meals were included. I had the choice of 6 fine dining options which included Italian, Asian, French and Caribbean cuisines. My ultimate favorite was a restaurant named Kelly’s Dockside. This restaurant featured a fusion of seafood and St. Lucia’s creole cooking….yum!! The salmon covered in honey teriyaki sauce was a winner and just orgasmic!
If you get tired of your six options at the Halcyon resort, you can take advantage of Sandals Dine Around Program and enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the other two resorts on the Island. So it’s almost like getting three vacations in one (I’ll tell you more about this in future articles). In short, the Dine Around experience allows you to expand your dining selections from six restaurants to twenty-three.
As a mom looking for some much needed rest and relaxation, the Red Lane Spa at the Halcyon was the ideal place to rejuvenate my mind and body. I tried the Hot Stone Therapy body massage, and a Youthful Radiance facial. I also enjoyed the massage in a Gazebo overlooking the beach. The Red Lane Spa is a must at the Halcyon as it revived my weary body and spirit in such a way that made me feel “ready to take on the world!”
Sandals St. Lucia-Halcyon offers a myriad of activities in their all-inclusive packages. However, it’s a couples resort and perfect for honeymooners and adult-only destination weddings. So, get the grandparents or baby sitter ready and prepare for the best vacation ever. I’ll be sharing more about Sandals St. Lucia resorts here on NUBIAMAG, so stay tuned, and leave a comment if you’ve visited or plan on visiting soon.
