We all remember those days when music set the mood and spin the bottle was a part of every hooky party (not that I would know!). Today, our taste may have grown from the days of Terror Fabulous “Position” to a more subtle mix but one thing remains the same—music makes us heat up! So, in honor of the many, many sex songs, here is a list that may have you reminiscing about the first time or the next-time—maybe?

1. “Flex,” Mad Cobra

2.“Freak Like Me,” Adina Howard

3. “Headboard,” Plies, featuring Mario and Hurricane Chris

4.  “Neighbors Know My Name,” Trey Songz

5.  “Hold Yuh,” Gyptian/Lady Saw  Remix

6.  “Bump n’ Grind,” R Kelly

What songs get you in the mood?

For centuries, cultures all over the world have tried to link erogenous foods to sexuality as part of our natural aphrodisiac. Some foods like mussels, strawberries, oysters, caviar, and even cherries are said to enhance the release of oxyctocin in the brain to stimulate sexual desire. Depending on the culture, there are a variety of foods and herbs that causes someone to go into a heated frenzy. Whether fact or fiction, we all use food as a romantic gesture to create a “wanting” desire within our partner. From oysters to lettuce, let’s take a look at what stimulates the senses  across continents.

Balut Embryo and Yolk

Balut Embryo and Yolk

Balut (Phillipines, Cambodia and Vietnam)- is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. Balut is believed to be an aphrodisiac because its a high-protein and hearty snack.

I have penis envy! There I said it and I probably set the Women’s Movement back 20 years– but ask me if I care? While living in the Windy City, I dated this dude who would always say to me “You have penis envy” and of course I would object with all the feminism I could muster, only to find myself wishing I had the same “perks” as men in this world. I tell friends all the time, if I am ever reincarnated I want to come back as a man. Why? Because, I feel that men have more options, whether in relationships or in business, they just always seem to get more out the deal than women. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean, I don’t love being soft and pink, it doesn’t mean, I don’t get to be the “HBIC” and our clothes—well it’s fabu. So in honor of this week’s feeling of penis envy, here are a few reasons why it feels like a man’s world and women just live in it. Please ladies don’t hate me!

1. They can get a smart, beautiful, exotic, money-making chick without having to sacrifice “something.”
2. They get to go on the golf trips with the boss
3. They make more MONEY!!

DELICIOUS INDIAN DELIGHTS AT TAMBA
By Miss Jane

Tamba, a traditional Indian restaurant run by delightful couple, the Maliks, offers diners a menu and ambiance both warm and full of options. Booths are a common fixture in this restaurant, providing a great environment for a lighthearted family meal or an intimate date with your significant other.

Start with one of their very affordable drinks (no more than $10) such as Indian Rain, which has pineapple rum, Hypnotic, and lime, or their special mango sangria, which is sweet and refreshing. For a stiffer beverage, try the Red Devil (think a creative take on Long Island Ice Tea) or the Volcano, made with rum, Kahlua, irish cream, and Grand Marnier.

For appetizers, try the Lasani Gobhi, a cauliflower dish sauteed in garlic and flavorful tomato sauce or the Curried Crab Cakes, which come with a tangy mint and tamarind chutney.

I love rice dishes, and Tamba does not disappoint with its biryani plates including the shrimp biryani with basmati rice cooked with shrimp, saffron, nuts and raisins, and the Kashmiri Biryani which is basmati rice cooked with assorted fruits, nuts, and raisins.

A great seafood meal to have is the Fish Moilee, made with tilapia cooked with ginger, mustard, and curry leaves in coconut milk stew. It comes with a fragrant rice and will warm your bones and excite your taste buds.

The Tamba Murg Delight, a dish with tender chicken stuffed with spinach, is great if you’re looking for a healthy dish to enjoy that isn’t too spicy. It comes with salad leaves and a tangy sauce that has a slight bite that hits u moments after consuming.

For the vegetarians, I’d recommend the Vegetable Jalfrezi, a dish with mixed veggies and assorted spices including a great hint of cilantro.

Make sure you order one of their Tandoori breads, baked to perfection in a special clay oven, such as the Kasmiri Naan (stuffed with ground lamb) and the Garlic Kulcha (cooked with garlic and herbs).

I finished my dining experience with the pistachio kulfi, a traditional Indian ice cream made with a touch of rose water. Delish!

18-course buffet $9.95, 12 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday - Saturday

Jason Grae, Bachelor on "Omarosa's Ultimate Merger"

Jason Grae, Bachelor on "Omarosa's Ultimate Merger"

We all remember the aggressive, often opinionated Omaraosa from Season 1 of Donald Trump’s hit series the Apprentice–will she’s back with her new show produced by who else but “The Donald.” Accurately titled: “Omarosa’s Ultimate Merger,” 12 gentlemen battle for the love and affection of this no-nonsense lady. SO who will win her heart, we at NUBIA, tracked down one bachelor Jason Grae and asked him about the show’s juicy secrets and his romantic life without giving it all away!

At about 11a.m., I was Jason’s wake-up call for our interview, after getting in the wee hours to pound the NYC pavement on of his spontaneous 2 a.m. jogs. After getting his mind clear, this romantic Virgo goes on to tell me about the misconceptions associated with Omarosa, the reality of “reality” TV and how romance is the way to keep any woman interested!

Q: Let’s get down to it, what is the original “bad-girl” Omarosa really like?
A: There is a brief laugh then he exclaims–She’s a woman.

Q: What does that mean?
A: Let me explain, yeah she’s ambitious, a real go-getter but at the end of the day, she wants to feel catered to at home. What she has going on at work—stays at work.

Q: So her power and status doesn’t intimidate you?
A: Not at all, only a man who has nothing going on in his own life would be intimidated by a successful woman. I am an entrepreneur, who has created a successful massage therapy company–Healing Hands Event Mobile Spa as well as my events planning business. My energy and passion is also geared towards my own ventures.

A New Coffee Spot in Town

Vietnamese Coffee, $4

Vietnamese Coffee, $4

Cappuccino, expresso, lattes oh my! These are only a few of the caffeine infused concoctions made at the cute Tribeca cafe shop on worth street. Not another Starbucks, this inspired coffee shop came from owner and coffee connoisseur Jodi, who love the bean she just had to share in this neighborhood.

This new Tribeca establishment garners the best coffee from all over world—from the likes of Ethiopia to Brazil. With the savvy Slayer machine–the only one of its kind in New York, along with the Clover brewing style, they can whip up a cup of your favorite drink in 45 seconds.

Whether it’s the very fruity Ethiopian coffee, with red and blueberry aromas or the Vietnamese concoction made with sweetened condensed milk, expresso, French roasted coffee and doplets of foam, its bittersweet chocolate after taste is a must-taste.

So ladies, it seems men like us to make the first move (who would have thought) but as usual there are stipulations. Imagine you walk into a party and see “your type” at the bar talking with friends. You feel an instant attraction and for once you want to make the first move–but how? Of course you don’t want to yell across the room and look desperate but you don’t want to come off easy either. So to all my single ladies, here are a few ways to strike up some flirty convo plus a few one-liners to stay away from.

DO

1. “Can I buy you a drink?”—Men are always making the first move and extending the drink offer. So they are more than happy to have the roles reversed for a change. Try this line, it will work wonders on his ego. However, he might say “No, thanks anyway”, suck it up, you tried and now it’s on to the next one.

Diverse and Hearty Korean Fare at Arang

By Miss Jane

Arang, a Japanese-Korean fusion restaurant situated in Korea Town, provides a dining experience that embraces what many of us love about New York City: Diversity! Serving traditional Korean dishes as well as sushi, this eatery offers some great takes on American and Chinese favorites without falling short of flavor and substance.

sushi

Grab a window seat, it provides a great view of the bustling street below and start with a sip of saki. The restaurant offers an array of many mixtures, my favorite is the Soju yogurt flavor, which has a sweet creamy taste like that of a cream soda. Don’t let the sweet taste fool you, after downing a couple shots, it is definitely a feel-good drink.

If you’re not into saki, try one of their Korean beers. My guest loved Hite, which had a light crisp taste (add lime and you’ll think you’re South of the Border.)

For appetizers, the sky is the limit. I initially looked at some of the dishes with skepticism, but was delightfully surprised at how much I loved them all! My two favorites were the Kimchee, a vegetable dish, which had a nice tangy, spicy kick, and a potato salad, that could rival those served at your family’s BBQ or Sunday dinner. It had just the right hint of mayonnaise, egg, and seasonings. My guest and I couldn’t get enough of it!
