selitaebanks

Last night, Selita Ebanks made an appearance on the season premiere of The Game on BET. The supermodel is known for switching up her looks. Whether short, blonde or ‘Rihanna Red’, Ms. Ebanks also looks fab!

Her most recent choice in hair and makeup is my favorite look so far. The green and gold shadow with bold, glamorous lashes are the perfect formula to heat things up on a winter night on the town.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK

1. Try NYX eyeshadow in Exotic Green for a deep, smoky effect

There’s no doubt that we’ve all been suffering from the sudden arrival of Old Man Winter! While we’re bundling up to stay warm, it’s hard to protect those lips from the harsh effects of cold weather.

Here are 3 quick tips to prevent and treat dry, chapped lips:

1. NO LICKING — Avoid the urge to lick your lips when dry. Saliva will only dry out your lips even more and cause build up residue.

2. PUT YOUR TOOTHBRUSH TO USE — Before you brush your teeth, use your dry toothbrush to gently brush your lips.

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Antique Gold

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Antique Gold

Whether it sparkles, crackles or shines, this season’s nail trends will definitely add some flair to your typical manicure. We’re over the bright pinks, oranges and yellows from spring/summer, but that doesn’t mean we have to resort to boring, drab colors.

Textured, special effects nails are a hot trend this season! Three of my favorite textured nail polishes are Nails Inc. London Magnetic Polish, Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat and Deborah Lippman Risque Red Sequin.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat in Antique Gold ($6) -  create a crackle effect when you apply two coats of your favorite nail color. Once dried, add a thin or thick coat (depending on desired effect) of any Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat shade.

Caring for your baby’s skin is not as simple as picking the first thing on the shelf.  As a new mother, you might go for products recommended by your pediatrician or other moms. As your baby gets older and you become more familiar with her/his skin type, you can find a variety of baby care products with all natural ingredients.

Some babies have more sensitive skin than others or might develop dryness due to change of weather. For the past two winters, I’ve switched to a moisturizing body wash for my daughter since her skin tends to get extremely dry when it’s cold. Instead of lotion, I like to use a body butter like Lavanila The Healthy Baby Butter — a pure shea and cocoa butter blend with over 30 essential vitamins and minerals.

If you’ve kept up with my beauty posts over the summer, you know that I’ve experienced the good, the bad and downright ugly when it comes to eyelash extensions.

As much I loved my last set of false lashes, I decided to go for zero maintenance and just wear my natural lashes for now. Well, it was all in good timing because I would have never gotten the chance to try this amazing new mascara – Voluminous False Fiber Lashes by L’Oreal Paris.

For those of you who are skeptical about getting lash extensions or just want a low maintenance temporary option, the beauty gods have granted your wish! Yes, you can really get the look of fabulous faux lashes with a mascara.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes mascara enhances your natural lashes with its sculpting fiber formula. The allergen-free fibers attaches to your lashes for a longer, fuller, clump-free look. To remove — just wash with soap and water.

Shirodhara is a therapeutic technique which involves the drizzling of warm sesame oil onto one’s forehead. Not only does it condition your hair, but it also helps to calm nerves, release stored emotions, purify the mind, fight fatigue, anxiety, insomnia and headaches!

2. Bamboo Massage

It’s basically using a rolling pin (just bigger than the one you bake with) to knead and rub out all the aches and pains. Bamboo Massage is said to improve blood circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage.

Cooler temps calls for warm, rich, deep colors. This fall, the hottest color trends are blues, purples and reds. Blend lighter to darker hues and wear them with nudes during the day or metallics at night!

In some cases, you get exactly what you pay for and that holds true even when it comes to something as simple as getting false eyelashes. These days, the professional term is “lash extensions” and it’s a semi-permanent technique that’s all the rage among celebs from Kim Kardashian to Oprah. I have naturally long lashes but wanted to experience what most women say they love about lash extensions – the ability to skip the mascara and waking up “photo shoot ready” (somewhat) .

At first, I tried a cheaper salon and for $25, I got lash extensions that looked good but obviously fake and lost a lot of my natural lashes after a painful removal process. Even though the salon used a “do it yourself” lash kit that can be found in most pharmacies, I went through hell trying to dissolve the glue both at home and at the salon.

Luckily, I was introduced to Xtreme Lashes, a luxury brand of lash extensions that uses single strands of eyelashes applied one by one directly to your own eyelashes with a medical grade adhesive. It was developed by an ICU pediatric nurse, so that help to ease all my concerns about hygiene and safety. Xtreme Lashes recommended one of their 7,000 plus certified lash stylists (yep it’s a specialty) who helped to salvage my previously damaged lashes. Thanks to Cheri, owner of Lash Boutique in NYC, I have beautiful, thicker lashes and a whole new perspective on this hot beauty trend!

I’ve had my eye on Zoe Saldana for quite some time now. Her effortless style and beauty plus mega box office hit (Avatar) is the perfect formula for A-list celebrity status.  Lately, she’s been on the cover of almost every magazine, gearing up for the release of her next film — Colombiana.

Zoe recently graced the cover of Russian Harper’s Bazaar in July and will be the cover girl for the September issues of Ebony and Latina. Can’t wait to see more of her on the red carpet!
