The other day I was on the phone with my friend in Chicago who informed me that I don’t know how to play the game. Here’s some of our convo:

Him: “It’s all a game.”
Me: “What do you mean?”
Him: “Men say things to get a reaction out of a woman and you always react. That’s just how you are.
Me: “No I don’t.”
Him: “Then when a guy no longer what to play the game–he will say “we’re just friends.”
Me: “I think I play the game.”
Him: “No you don’t.”

I guess he would know since we dated for a while before becoming friends and we don’t play the game–anymore. Hmm, does that mean–he was running game on me?!

THE MESH BOOTIE

I think we’ve seen more trends in the last five years than we’ve seen in any era — some new, some reinvented and some totally retro.  With every trend comes high-end designer creations, cheap knock-offs and, of course, high-end designer creations that look like cheap knock-offs!

Although it’s been totally over done, the mesh bootie is still a sexy fall nightime look, and it’s also one of those trends that you’ll find in all three above mentioned categories.

Can you guess which bootie in this picture  is the ”high-end”, “cheap knock-off” and “high-end that looks like a cheap knock-off”? Here’s a hint — you won’t have to splurge to look like a million bucks!

CAN YOU GUESS WHICH BOOTIE IS $625?

Kerry Washington Saves the Day at the For Colored Girls Premiere

Kerry Washington in a Missoni maxi dress at For Colored Girls NYC premiere

Kerry Washington in a Missoni maxi dress at For Colored Girls NYC premiere

Tyler Perry’s first R-rated film, For Colored Girls, may be a star studded hit at the box office, but the ladies flopped big time at the red carpet premiere. The event was held a couple weeks ago at the Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC. Recap of the fashion disaster is as follows — Janet in a black wide leg pant suit, Thandie in an unshapely gray dress, Anika Noni Rose (from Princess and the Frog) in a blinding orange and gold dress.

Luckily, Kerry Washington never dissapoints and represented “for the colored girls” in a beautiful fall floral maxi dress by Missoni. Although we typically think of the maxi dress as a spring/summer look, it’s very appropriate this season for two reasons — florals in deeper hues are hot right now and long and flowing always works for semi-formal or formal holiday attire.

Kerry’s Missoni dress will run from $1,500 to $2000, but this cascade print maxi from Bebe is a worthy contender for just $398…

There has been an abundance of recent celeb gossip lately, whether it’s Eva Longria and Tony Parker’s divorce (He cheated-gasp!) to Pink being preggers. Why is it that people get so caught up in the life & style of entertainers? In my case, let’s say a curious person, so I want to know even if it doesn’t concern my everyday life. Sometimes you just have to step back and shake your head at the hot celebrity mess.

This mornings hot news–Ochocinco’s cheesy, booty-popping reality show is now forgotten and he’s engaged–after four months, to Basketball Wife Evelyn, you know the one whose claim to fame was being engage to NBA-player Antoine Walker.

Here’s what the future Mrs. Chad Ochocinco tweeted:

Elizabeth and James cuffed bootie - Reg $385.00/Sale $269.50 at Bloomies

My family just settled into a new space and during the move I decided to do away with a lot of stuff I’ve never used, hardly used or used too much — clothing incuded. I think it’s a great start to a clutter-free life. MB thinks it’s just a reason to get a whole new wardrobe. Well, there’s some truth to both theories and with the huge sales going on this weekend, I say let the shopping begin!

JIMMY CHOO UGGS VS. KOOLABURRA

Jimmy Choo and UGG studded suede boots - $795

Jimmy Choo and UGG studded suede boots - $795

I love my UGGS and wouldn’t trade them for anything, especially after comforting my swollen feet during and after pregnancy. They’ve proven even more useful for running errands with a 20 pound 8 month old and  how could I forget that warm sheepskin lining.

Although it’s not that stylish as a standalone piece, any fashion savvy gal can make this look super cool with the right outfit. If you still feel the need to make a bigger statement, Jimmy Choo and UGGS have partnered to bring you the Mandah studded suede boots. I do think it’s cute, but not that cute for $795. I wear UGGS for comfort and will continue to rock the plain ole original version but if you like the Jimmy Choo collaboration, check out this similar look from Koolaburra on www.shopkitson.com

CASUALLY COOL LEATHER SHORTS

(L-R) 3.1 Phillip Lim leather shorts -$520 at blueandcream.com, Trouve leather shorts $198 at Nordstrom.com

(L-R) 3.1 Phillip Lim leather shorts -$520 at blueandcream.com, Trouve leather shorts $198 at Nordstrom.com

Ever since I saw Jada Pinkett-Smith sporting those hottt leather shorts in Milan, I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of my own. Yeah, it sounds like a fashion faux paus waiting to happen (especially in your 30s) but with a more relaxed fit and longer length, designers have made this season’s leather shorts casually cool and age-appropriate for almost everyone.

This leather short is not for the girl dropping it like it’s hot at the club. You can pull this off as day look with solid tights, ankle boots and a jacket or oversized cardigan. You can also dress-up your leather shorts by night with peep-toe booties and a long sleeved silk blouse.

I love the pair by 3.1 Phillip Lim, but at $198 the Trouve leather shorts from Nordstom is a winner!

Emilio Pucci One-Shoulder Gold dress

Emilio Pucci One-Shoulder Gold dress - around $1,000 -$2,000

This Emilio Pucci one-shoulder lace mini dress is hot, and it seems to be a favorite among Hollywood celebs as well. Milla Jovovich (the chick from Resident Evil and The Fifth Element) wore a white version to the premiere of her new film Stone, and according to redcarpet-fashionawards.com, singer Kylie Minogue and two others were also spotted in the same dress!

Although I prefer the shorter, skimpier gold version worn by the model, I found a grey look-a-like with a more practical fit for the average woman. At only $152, you might be able to splurge on some Pucci shoes and still have a $1,000 to play with!
