Will and Jada Smith are one of the hottest power couples, but I believe their true defining moment as Hollywood royalty came with the Vogue photo spread. The sassy, round-the-way actress from a “Different World” had grown into a sophisticated, glamorous, class act and kudos to whoever put together such regal threads that perfectly captured this transformation – I thought.

Two weeks ago, I got the chance to meet the woman partly responsible for molding the images of Will and Jada as well as Rhianna, Amerie, Kimora Lee Simmons and other celebs. Stylist Mariel Haenn started her career in the music industry and went on to work with The Source and MTV. Today, Mariel is a freelance celebrity stylist, but she recently took time to work with Saks Fifth Avenue and MasterCard to create a fall fashion guide for those of us who can’t hire our own personal stylist.

With all the trends we’ve seen on the runways and on celebrities, I asked Mariel to recommend some basic pieces to add to our everyday wardrobe. According to Mariel, a cozy knit, leggings and ‘forever” bag – that is timeless and goes with almost everything – are three must-haves for day to day attire.

My favorites are long tunics or cardigans in solid bright colors or animal prints. I also like the comfort and versatility of jewel embellished or studded leggings, The forever bag is a no-brainer for me since this is usually my most expensive purchase which I expect to give me a good run for my money!
