So ladies, it seems men like us to make the first move (who would have thought) but as usual there are stipulations. Imagine you walk into a party and see “your type” at the bar talking with friends. You feel an instant attraction and for once you want to make the first move–but how? Of course you don’t want to yell across the room and look desperate but you don’t want to come off easy either. So to all my single ladies, here are a few ways to strike up some flirty convo plus a few one-liners to stay away from.
DO
1. “Can I buy you a drink?”—Men are always making the first move and extending the drink offer. So they are more than happy to have the roles reversed for a change. Try this line, it will work wonders on his ego. However, he might say “No, thanks anyway”, suck it up, you tried and now it’s on to the next one.
2. “Hi/Hello”—Cutesy and cheesy rolled into one. What guy can avoid such an adorable line, besides you are both at the bar –he doesn’t expect you to ask about the weather!
3. “That color looks really good on you” Men like compliment just like we women do. I once told a guy with great dreads, “your hair looks really nice.” I wasn’t trying to pick him up but that comment led to conversation, which later led to us dating for a bit. Remember, he’s not your girlfriend and doesn’t want to have chick conversation. Compliment the look but leave the idle shopping chatter to your BFF.
DON’T
1. “I would love to take you home”—Men like an aggressive woman—to a point. They don’t want you to sound like a man. Therefore, referring to sexual innuendo is a no-no, unless you plan on having just one-night stand, keep your raging hormones on the low—at least for now.
2. “Do you come here often?” Unless you are Halle Berry in a two-piece bikini, I doubt that one will come off as anything but lame. Instead refer to #1 on DO list.
