Beyonce is preggers!

It’s like the whole world has been waiting for Jigga to “put one in there” or maybe they’re just amazed at seeing Beyonce looking more fabulous than ever with the glow of motherhood.

The songstress revealed her baby bump on stage at the VMAs and now there’s one more reason be obssesed with the super-star couple. As a mother, I’m so excited for Beyonce and any woman who gets to experience the joys of motherhood. From a fashion perspective, I’ll be watching to see all the fabulous ways she shows off her extra curves and even envision her in some of my fave maternity designers…

Benetton Kid's Fall 2011

Benetton Kids Fall 2011

I might be thinking too far ahead, but my little girl is growing up so fast that I’ll soon have to get into back to school routines. As if spending 20-something years in school wasn’t enough, I now have to do it all over again.

Well, the bright side is shopping for back to school clothes can be fun. Kids like to look good too and they have lots of personality by the time they start school. I think helping them to develop a sense of style will boost their self esteem and provide a sense of individuality.

Here are 4 ways to make it fun and stress free for you and the little one(s):

1. Yes, it’s all about fashion — Don’t just stick to the basics. Designers put a lot into making fun, fashionable, age-appropriate clothes for kids, so get them a few trendy pieces to add to their wardrobe. This season for girls, think stripes, bright colorful tights, animal print and the “band jacket” (as shown below). Benetton, Gap, Zara and H&M have some of the cutest back to school trends for little divas.

We all have those awkward moments when the action in the bedroom just doesn’t go as well as planned. From embarrassing noises to two minutes encounters…here are 5 fun facts to deal with those “the self-conscious” moments.

1. The uncontrollable bodily fluids—yes ladies we do #1 and orgasm from two different locations, so that stain is from “squirting” but tell him that’s why and hope it doesn’t smell like –well you know.

In some cases, you get exactly what you pay for and that holds true even when it comes to something as simple as getting false eyelashes. These days, the professional term is “lash extensions” and it’s a semi-permanent technique that’s all the rage among celebs from Kim Kardashian to Oprah. I have naturally long lashes but wanted to experience what most women say they love about lash extensions – the ability to skip the mascara and waking up “photo shoot ready” (somewhat) .

At first, I tried a cheaper salon and for $25, I got lash extensions that looked good but obviously fake and lost a lot of my natural lashes after a painful removal process. Even though the salon used a “do it yourself” lash kit that can be found in most pharmacies, I went through hell trying to dissolve the glue both at home and at the salon.

Luckily, I was introduced to Xtreme Lashes, a luxury brand of lash extensions that uses single strands of eyelashes applied one by one directly to your own eyelashes with a medical grade adhesive. It was developed by an ICU pediatric nurse, so that help to ease all my concerns about hygiene and safety. Xtreme Lashes recommended one of their 7,000 plus certified lash stylists (yep it’s a specialty) who helped to salvage my previously damaged lashes. Thanks to Cheri, owner of Lash Boutique in NYC, I have beautiful, thicker lashes and a whole new perspective on this hot beauty trend!

front

As a foodie, I love to try cuisine from all over the world. Some of my favs include Korean, Thai, Indonesia, Turkish and can’t forget my homeland Jamaica. I am always surprised by the ingredients and hint of flavor that makes each dish different and true to their nation. With this said, I came across a web article on Epicurious, “Around the World in 80 Dishes”.  Here five dishes from all parts of the world. For the full list, click on the link above and enjoy!

  1. Ethiopia: Doro Wett
  2. South Africa: Bobotie
  3. Peru: Seviche of Red Snapper
  4. Jamaica: Jerk Chicken
  5. Australia: Pavlova

nutella

I am so tired of people overeating and then blaming companies for the extra 10, 15 or even 20 pounds. From suing McDonalds for their kids happy meal options to restaurants for their dessert items, whatever the case, consumers who lack the discipline will continue to blame others for their own weight issues. But this new lawsuit takes the cake or should I say spread. Have you all read about the woman who is suing Nutella—claiming the company/advertisements led her to think this almond, nutty was a healthful breakfast option for her 4-year-old daughter. I wonder how often she gave her child Nutella and if she read the nutritional label on the bottle—maybe she would have thought differently.

What do you think about this latest lawsuit? At what point does the system say enough to these ridiculous lawsuits?

The Rachel Zoe collection just launched at Bloomies and my fave piece is the slouchy, pleated pants ($275). It’s actually one item that you can wear now through fall/winter and for almost any occasion.

2011-08-15

Anything shiny will be a hit next season, so pair your slouchy pants with a top like the Vince sequin crepe tank ($295, net-a-porter.com) and you’ve got a fun evening look.

We might secretly envy the male species for a few things and a tailored suit is sure to be on the list; at least for fall 2011. The midnight blue velvet tuxedo jacket from Stella McCartney ($1,997) with your slouchy pants has the right amount of edge and sexiness for a red carpet, semi formal affair.

I’ve had my eye on Zoe Saldana for quite some time now. Her effortless style and beauty plus mega box office hit (Avatar) is the perfect formula for A-list celebrity status.  Lately, she’s been on the cover of almost every magazine, gearing up for the release of her next film — Colombiana.

Zoe recently graced the cover of Russian Harper’s Bazaar in July and will be the cover girl for the September issues of Ebony and Latina. Can’t wait to see more of her on the red carpet!
