Situated conspicuously amongst a never ending row of re-furbished brownstones, Turning Heads Day Spa sits as a hidden gem in a converted townhouse offering wellness and sophisticated salon services for clientele that desire mind, body and wellness services within a natural setting. A walk through the front entrance is met by a friendly receptionist who leads you quietly up the stairs to the salon to meet your stylist along with your choice of green or apple tea. Under the hum of bristling dryers the atmosphere encourages a balance of the mind and body, reinforced by the earth tone covered walls and tribal inspired décor.
Downstairs provides a sanctuary of blissful skin and body treatment rooms encompassed by several stress relieving services like anti-aging facials, deep tissue massages and paraffin hand and foot treatments. The salon/spa provides a great local escape for those looking for the same resort-style comfort and relaxation without having to spend a fortune. Upon moving to Harlem a few months ago, I immediately booked an appointment to check out the only salon I could find in the area that would pamper me like a princess and give me the phenomenal service I was looking for.

STORY:
Turning Heads Salon & Day Spa has become a well-known and respected name in the New York area and nationwide for natural hair care for almost two decades. Now, under the new ownership of Senior Stylist, Sandy Scarborough, Turning Heads is continuing to build on the foundation already established and go beyond. In 2002 the business was expanded to include a day spa, making Turning Heads, Harlem’s only full service salon and day spa.
SPECIALTY:
Natural hair care and enhancements, chemical services and spa treatments.

WHY WE LOVE THEM:
My stylist Sandy was extremely helpful in finding a new look for my natural hair and walked me through the process of maintaining my locs for days to come. Sandy used all-natural products and was able to get me in and out of the shop under 3 hours (a great feat for normal loc maintenance). The staff was genuinely warm and friendly and even added my newly birthed look to their repertoire of styles.
TIPS:
Schedule a phone or in-person consultation. Remember to have your hair free of any extensions or styling products for stylists to give adequate evaluations.
On Tuesdays and Wednesdays students and seniors receive 15% off with id. Thursdays through Mondays the deal is 10% off.
Doing research on Sandy Scarborough for my site 24karatkreations.com. This is a one stop shop site showcasing small businesses owned by Women of Color. I was uanble to verify if Sandy was indeed a Women of Color and was only able to confirm this after locating her on Nubia.
Researching for my site, I am coming across so many sites such as yours that I did not know existed before. I enjoyed surfing through Nubia. This is one of the better sites I’ve seen for Women of Color. I will be adding your link on my site once it’s complete. Please stop by and take a look. Keep doing what you’re doing and stay encouraged!
